We present a series of personal tributes to the unique crafts and skills of Blackpool’s famous transport system, based since 1922 at Rigby Road. Under the penmanship of John Woodman, born in Blackpool, and recording local scenes from his school days in the early 1960’s – the series is being produced with collaboration of official sources, as well as privately owned and unpublished material. The volumes are profusely illustrated.
Enhancing ‘Tribute to Rigby Road’ volumes are many superlative full colour scale renderings of Blackpool buses and trams – produced by Ian Stewart. Ian is famous for his vehicle illustrations for the landmark book – ‘The Glasgow Tramcar’.
Copies of ‘Tribute to Rigby Road Works’ are available through individual subscription and by arrangement with select stockists in the UK. The volumes are limited edition and are essential reading for everyone with transport and urban heritage interests; as well as those with a strong affection for Blackpool’s colourful history.
We welcome anecdotal contributions from former employees and companies associating with Blackpool’s transport system. In the first instance email or write you can find more details here.

When the Marton Depot closed in 1962 many of the unique Blackpool trams were scrapped without distinction of merit, the radical downsizing of Blackpool’s traditional tram fleet during the winter of 2009/10 required urgent action to ensure that representative vehicle types were reserved for display in Wyre Borough and the town of Fleetwood.
The Friends Of Fleetwood Trams was created in 2009 expressly to save trams for a project in the northern part of the seafront line – benefitting visitors and the wider community of Wyre Borough, the vehicles will form part of an exciting themed attraction sited appropriately next to a light rail station stop on the upgraded route.
If you would like to help us there are a couple of ways you can do this. The first is by simply making a donation securely via PayPal towards the trams, or you can choose an individual tram and make a donation for that particular tram and you can keep an eye on progress with the TRAM–O–METER
Another way that you could help is to become a “Friend” of Fleetwood Trams this will allow you to access the Friends Area of the web site where you will find news, updates and information about the initiatives underway, plus Notes From The Permanent Way by John Woodman which is updated weekly and a 10% discount on books and merchandise.
